Maggie and Missy were playing. Missy was running in front of Maggie and stopped suddenly. Maggie couldn't stop in time and the next thing you know Missy was on the ground yelping. I could tell she was injured and she yelped everytime she moved. I called the vet and he said to give her 1/4 asperin and bring her in in the morning. The next day the vet took xrays and found that she had fractured her leg in three places. He couldn't do the surgery until Tuesday and it was only Friday. He sent us home with medicince and told us to keep her quiet. Have you ever tried to keep a young puppy quiet? Especially with another dog in the house? We are managing................she goes to the vet tomorrow to get xrayed again.

Salmon River Waterfalls
The salmon river was across the street from the house we rented for our vacation and about 3 miles down the road, you could hike to the waterfalls. They were great and the girls loved walking (running) along the trail. We had the whole trail to ourselves.
video of the girls at the waterfalls
The girls had a ball walking through the woods to the Salmon River Waterfalls.
New Puppy
It's been some time since I have had a chance to make a post and a lot of things have happened. We got a new puppy and her name is Missy. We also went rented a house up in Pulaski, NY near the Salmon river and it's on a private lake. Butch spent the week fishing and I spent the week reading. We both spent most of the week making sure that the puppies got along.

Maggie loves to swim and jumps in anytime there is a ball in the pool. She thinks they all should be hers.

Pergola

It's been awhile since I've had time to do any posting to my blog. Spring is pretty hectic around here. Getting the pool opened, the pond cleaned up and all the plants planted. After that is all done comes entertaining. It is fun to entertain outside but it takes alot of time. Especially when you work all week and only have the weekends. We ordered a Pergola kit back in April and it didn't come until June. We finally got it put together with the help of Gary. We are afraid of heights and couldn't imagine getting up on top to screw in the top bars. Gary was great, he just crawled up there and was done in a flash.

New York Bus Trip

We have been busy the last couple of weekends. On April 14 we took a bus trip to New York City. The trip was organized by the Employee Activity Committee at work. We had a great time. We took the tour bus once we got up to New York and saw all the sights. The weather was a little nippy but the sun was shining and it was a great day. Of course, we couldn't leave little Maggie alone all day so we found a great kennel nearby and boarded her for the day. It was a trial run because the next week end we had plans to go to Philadelphia with my sister Karen and her husband Terry. We boarded Maggie again for the weekend and set out for Philadelphia. The weather was wonderful. We wanted to see the King Tut exhibit at the Ben Franklin Institute. We did the sites in Philadelphia on Saturday and then stayed at Embassy Suites and drove over to Newark to see the USS New Jersey on Sunday before coming home. We had a great time.

Preparing the pond
Spring is finally here. We put in a pond last year and we were worried about how the fish would handle the winter. We had a heater that kept a foot of unfrozen water so the gases could escape. The fish hibernate during the winter but since this was our first winter we didn't know what to expect. We started the waterfall and cleaned out the filter. There was a lot of string algae but we were able to pull most of it out. The fish seem to be fine and are as hungry as ever. Maggie loves to watch them swim around. So far she has left them alone. When we first brought her home she thought she could walk across the pond but found out pretty fast that she would have to sink or swim. She doggy paddled over the end and got out like nothing happened. I am going to try to add a video to show the fish swimming but I haven't figured out how yet.

Hair Cut
Maggie got her first haircut this week. It took 3 hours to bathe, shampoo and cut her hair. They also cut her nails and cleaned her ears. They put cute little red bows in her hair when they were done. We hardly recogonized her. Then Aunt Karen and Uncle Terry came up and she was in her glory. She had two more people to kiss and lick and play with. She was so excited she didn't even think about taking her nap. She jumped in the car with them when they tried to leave. We thought we were special and that is why she is always so excited to see us but we found out she just loves everyone.

Wearing a collar

Maggie has been getting used to her home for the last three months and we felt it was timd for her to be fixed so we wouldn't have a few more little Maggies running around. The surgery went well. We said yes to the lazer, intervenous drip during surgery and pain medication. We got her home and she was fine. Two days later however, her aunt Vicky came to visit and Maggie really gets excited when she gets company (especially Aunt Vicky). She jumped up to give her a big kiss and broke open her stitches. We had to take her back to the vets for sutures and he felt it best that she wear the "collar". We teased her alot and called her a smelly lightbulb(she couldn't get a bath with the collar on). She has to wear the collar for two weeks so she can heal properly. Boy is she bummed.

A Beginning
Maggie Mae picked us out at the Pet store in October. She was so small and looked so lost. I couldn't help staring at her. I had spent the three weeks prior to our visit trying to convince my hubby that our lives would not be complete without a dog. As usual he was adamant that we did not need a dog. It was three weeks later that we found ourselves in the pet store looking at the pups. I asked for the little hairy one to be brought out so we could play with her in the little booths they furnish to make sure that you have sufficient time to grow attached to the little darling and don't leave without taking one with you. Maggie was so playful. I would throw the ball, she would get it and drop it at my feet and then sit on my toes until I threw it again. I was hooked. About 2 hours and several hundred dollars later we left with the little one in tow.
